Pearl’s killers warn probe team

ISLAMABAD- The members of the special investigation team, probing the brutal murder of US journalist Daniel Pearl in Karachi, have received a number of threatening phone calls from his killers who have asked them to stop their probe or get ready to face the consequences, it is reliably learnt. Sources said the first call was made from the mobile phone of Daniel Pearl a day before his murder video was sent to the US consulate in Karachi. Investigators had even received threatening calls after they received the videotape. However, it could not be confirmed whether Pearl’s mobile phone was still in operation. Interior ministry sources confirmed that the ministry had already been informed by the concerned police officers about the threats to their lives. According to sources, the callers had indicated that Pearl was killed on February 20, not earlier as Sheikh Omar, the prime suspect, had reportedly stated in court.
