Pearl case: Moin expects breakthrough in two days

LAHORE- Interior Minister Moinuddin Haider has said that a breakthrough is expected within next 24 to 48 hours in the kidnapping case of US journalist Daniel Pearl.

The government was not ready to believe the statement of Sheikh Omar, the main accused in the kidnapping, that Pearl was dead, Moin told reporters at Civil Defence Academy, Township here on Friday. “Anyone behind Pearl’s kidnapping only brought embarrassment to the country,” he added.

The interior minister said investigators were working round the clock for recovering the US reporter as well as arresting all persons involved in the kidnapping. Talking about the announced military courts, the interior minister said that establishment of these courts was in the knowledge of all the concerned quarters so there was no point in objecting to these courts. He said the proposed courts comprised three members, out of which two were to be from the judiciary and one from the military. As the majority of court members will decide a case there is no harm in these courts.
