PBC to set up 47 FM radio stations in 3 years

ISLAMABAD, March 30,2005: The Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) will set up 47 new FM radio stations in the next three years to ensure one hundred percent coverage in terms of both area and population.

This was stated by PBC Director General (DG) Tarique Imam while talking to an eight-member Malaysian delegation led by Information Secretary General Dr Arshad bin Hashim at PBC headquarters. The PBC DG briefed the delegation about the news, programme and engineering departments of the organisation and said the media could play an important role in expanding and promoting friendship between both countries.

It was time that the media expanded its cooperation and expertise for its advantage, he said. Draft proposals for bilateral cooperation between Radio Pakistan and Radio Malaysia were also discussed and the two sides expressed a desire to enhance cooperation and exchange programmes regularly. In addition, visits of technical and professional personnel to respective facilities were also agreed.

However, agreements will take place at ministerial meetings scheduled in Kuala Lumpur at the end of April.
The Malaysian information secretary general welcomed cooperation in radio productions, including dramas, adding there was scope to expand cooperation between the media organisations of Pakistan and Malaysia.The media could play an important role in promoting the mutual understanding of both countries, he said.
