Pakistani media ‘extremely moderate’
LAHORE: Media in Pakistan is extremely moderate and in dependent. Our print and electronic media is working under government pressure in Nepal We have a separate section in some Nepali newspapers for Urdu readers.
These views were expressed by Maheshwa Dahaf, Chairperson Revolutionary Journalists Association, Nepal, during his tour to the Institute of Communication Studies (ICS), Punjab University.
The Nepali journalists asked Dr Mughees Uddin Sheikh, Dean faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences’ to exchange video documentaries and short films with Nepal.Dr Mughees opined that as far as the exchange of documentaries was concerned, it’s a long awaited response by Nepal. We have to take special permission from various government institutions in this regard. Secondly, you can sign a MoU with our institute on educational ground, he suggested.
Ramesh Lamsal talked about the policy and freedom of expression in newspapers in Nepal. He said that media was more liberal in Pakistan. Normally, we do not give more news about Pakistan in our papers but when something important happens we try to give maximum coverage of the issue.
Lastly, Dr Ahsan Akhtar Naz, Director Institute of Communication Studies, thanked all members of the delegation and presented them souvenir.
PU DOCTORS TREAT 590 PATIENTS
Punjab University doctors treated 590 patients including 214 males and 376 females at its medical camp established at Shah Mansoor, Swabi.
They gave treatment toll patients suffering from fever & flu, 40 body aches, 55 women having gynaecological problems, 33 of skin diseases, 53 urinary track infection (UTI) and 398 other patients affected from various diseases.
The camp so far has provided treatment to 6,108 patients from 27 May 2009 to date.
