Pakistani Journalists approach International media bodies for support

LARKANA: August 24, 2012. (Nazir Siyal) Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and rest of Journalist bodies nationally failed to protect the working media men in districts; the district journalists have appealed the International Community and media Organizations to intervene and protect them from exploitation.

According to the working journalistic bodies in various districts have expressed concern over the protection and said that they are receiving threats by the influential, political mafia and administration as well.

The independent media fraternity has expressed conspiracies against the working media persons in districts by ignoring one and supporting so called bodies and yellow journalists by the administration they said.

In an appeal to the International Jouranlsit Organizations, they said during the present government only separate Press Clubs and various groups have been established for their vested interests and held responsible to the present democratic government and administrations failure.

In Larkana division around 10 Journalists have been murdered, a large number injured in attacks and held by police in fake cases or migrated to other metropolitan cities.

Aurangzeb Tunio, a reporter in Sindhi-language television and Kawaish newspaper was killed in the Qambar Shahdadkot district, alongwith his brother and a friend.

Recently, a senior Journalist of Larkana and Editor in daily newspaper Hafiz Khair Mohammed survived in a life attack by armed men, while his young son was killed by the armed men. He was attacked by the armed men several times but police failed to take them or security to the Journalist and his family, hiding at different places.

In Larkana Press Club, media men were manhandled brutally several times by the so called Journalists and their political supporters attacked inside or brutally tortured since long.

On different times, Journalists’ community meetings claimed that several media personals are still insecure, the media continued to be exposed to violence and pressures from the administration, political and religious groups and their influential colleagues toobut failed to protection.

The present government and bureaucracy are no more interested in providing a secure environment essential for the promotion of press freedom, so that the Journalists’community under the control of poltical and administration mafia as they are facing hardships during performs their duties.

On the occasion, senior Journalists condemned that the despite of various complaints reiterated to the Chief Minister Sindh, Press Secretary and ruling party media coordinators and other concerned but they did not pay any heed to the working media personals, which highly condemnable.

The liberal Journalists organizations and International bodies should take prompt action and demands for the generous policy; avoid favoritism despite of this to promote freedom of expression with autonomy and ending government monopoly control over the media.

Larkana and other parts of Journalists have appealed further to the PFUJ and other organizations to demand of the government to clear their vision and commitment to make institutional changes to promote press freedom and stop the administration and concerned department in the media involvement.
