“Pakistan to become regional hub of IT”
ISLAMABAD (September 28 2006): Member Telecom Ministry of Information and Technology Noor-ud-Din Baqai said that due to the availability of highly skilled human capital, world-class infrastructure and reduced cost of doing business Pakistan would soon become the regional hub of IT and telecom. Talking to PTV on Wednesday, he said IT cannot go without telecom so maximum liberalisation was given to telecom and as a follow-up mobile sector was also liberalised. He said, annually there was investment of one billion dollar in telecom sector, which they hope would increase with the passage of time. Government is focusing to increase the access of rural telecommunication, he added. He said, due to the privatisation policies, opening up of telecommunication sector and investment-friendly environment, Pakistan has become an attractive place for investment.
