Pakistan Press Foundation PPF in a letter to Augustin Matata Ponyo, Prime Minister of Congo, expressed concern over the closure of La Voix du Katanga, a broadcaster in Lubumbashi, by the authorities and condemns the closure of broadcasters.

PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali in his letter urged to stop shutting down broadcasters and reopen La Voix du Katanga as soon as possible in order to promote and defend freedom of expression.

According to Reporters without Borders (RSF), the authorities of the newly-formed province of Haut-Katanga announced the closure of La Voix du Katanga on 11 March and a senior Haut-Katanga official told that the station has not paid its annual dues and does not even have a broadcasting license. This statement was denied by the head of La Voix du Katanga, who insisted that all of its papers were up to date and that the closure was politically motivated.

Within six weeks, Haut-Katanga has seen the closure of three media outlets. This appears to be the prevention from any criticism from being broadcasted.
