Pakistan Press Foundation is concerned over stabbing to death of Mexico journalist
Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) in a letter to President of Mexico expressed concern over the stabbing to death of Mexican Media Company Grupo VX owner Moises Dagdug Lutzow, in his home in Villahermosa, Tabasco state.
PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali in letter urged the government to take decisive action in order to combat grave press freedom crisis facing Mexico and vigorously investigating Lutzow’s murder which comes as at least one journalist was killed in direct retaliation for his work. Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) is also investigating the motive behind a third murder case.
Owais Aslam said that Mexico is one the most dangerous countries in the world to work as a journalist. Since 1992, at least 36 journalists have been killed for their work.
According to local media, assailants stabbed Lutzow before fleeing in his vehicle. His vehicle and a knife that may have been used in attack were found abandoned on a highway. Witnesses said they saw two individuals flee from the vehicle.
Grupo VX director news Angel Antonio Jimenex told CPJ he called police and journalist’s sister after hearing a loud noise while in station’s office. Investigators were given footage from news outlet’s security cameras showing two men driving a vehicle after fleeing from his home.
Lutzow, who reported on politics, sensitive social issues, in 5 January 2016 episode of news analysis program denounced threats received for his critical editorial and vowed that despite threats he was not afraid and “will keep reporting.”
