Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF), an independent non-governmental institution committed to promoting and defending freedom of expression in a letter to Mr. Mauricio Macri, President of Argentina expressed concern over attack at home of Sergio Hurtado, radio journalist of Argentina who reported on drug trafficking and rape of his wife.

PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali in a letter to President Macri, urged government of Argentina to fully investigate and book the assailants for inhuman crime and ensures safety of Hurtado and his family.

Hurtado, owner and director of Luna FM, told The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) in a phone interview that assailants ordered him to stop talking about drug trade. According to Hurtado and news reports two men armed with knives and a handgun stormed into his house around 4:30 a.m. and ordered him to hand over 27,000 pesos (US$2,520). Then both men raped his wife, Cristina Hurtado.

He said assailants warned him: “Stop talking about drugs on radio. We had orders to kill you.” Hurtado’s wife said intruders claimed they were hit men and her husband must stop talking about drug trafficking, La Nacion newspaper reported. Before fleeing, intruders took away money, cell phones, and electronics.

He has regularly reported on drug use and trafficking in San Antonio de Areco. But he told CPJ that he could not point out a particular story that may have angered the assailants.
