Pakistan Press Foundation condemns physical assault on Palestinian journalist

Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF), an independent non-governmental institution committed to promoting and defending freedom of expression is concerned over physical assault on Palestinian cameraman of Al-Mahid TV, Amer Hijazi by Canadian Prime Minister Stephan Harper’s security guard in Bethlehem, a Palestinian city located in the central West Bank.

Quoting the information from Palestinian Centre for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA), PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali in a letter to the Prime Minister of Canada said, Quote “one of the body guard physically assaulted cameraman Amer Hijazi on 20 January, 2014 after a dispute took place, when the Palestinian journalists were not allowed to film within the church during PM’s first official trip to the Middle East”.

PPF condemns assault on cameraman and demands of the Canadian Government to hold an investigation of the incident and ensure freedom of expression and freedom of media.
