Pakistan Media Conference: ‘Intellectual property rights are sacred’
Karachi: The Intellectual Property Right (IPR) of any person is sacred and cannot and should not be usurped; laws should be stringent enough to hold and punish any person who is found guilty of stealing another’s intellectual property.
This was the general message on the first day of the three-day Pakistan Media Conference that is being held at the Karachi Expo Centre from June 26 to June 28 in collaboration with various companies including the Jang Group of Newspapers.
Famous singer and event organiser, Zoheb Hassan, explained that the purpose of the Conference was to bring stakeholders together to meet and interact with the general public to create awareness about the problem. He emphasised that proper legislation and strict implementation was essential to curb intellectual piracy.
Pakistan Intellectual Rights Association Chairman Khawaja Mansoor talked about intellectual rights and how to safeguard them.
Collector of Customs Muhammad Siddique in his presentation regarding the role of Customs in the enforcement of IPRs said that numerous laws, regulations and international conventions were available to help Customs officers in confiscation of pirated and contraband goods but some flaws were hindering their work. Day two of the conference (today) will focus on determining a media policy for Pakistan.
