Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) to replay BBC programmes

ISLAMABAD- The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) signed a rebroadcasting agreement with the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC), enabling the latter to supplement its service with former’s features and other programmes on culture, sports, science, music and English-language.

“This is a very important and significant development,” remarked BBC Chief Executive Mark Bayford who specially flew from Britain to sign an agreement with PBC Director General Anwer Mehmood.

In Pakistan alone according to a recent survey conducted by an independent private organization, BBC had over 16 million listeners, Mr Bayford told before signing the agreement. South East Asia, he said, was a very important region for the BBC as it had a very huge number of listeners in this part of world. The BBC already had rebroadcasting arrangements with over 1000 radio services in different countries of the world, Mr Bayford said.

As regard to the selection of programmes to be rebroadcast by Radio Pakistan, he said, the choice would only be of the PBC. The agreement signed was the result of over 10 years negotiations between the two radio services.
