PAC urges PTV to clear liabilities worth Rs253m

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly’s (NA) Public Accounts Committee’s (PAC) Special Committee on Thursday urged the management of Pakistan Television (PTV) to clear its liabilities worth Rs 253 million and report to the committee within a month.

A meeting of the special committee was held at Parliament House, chaired by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Zahid Hamid. The meeting discussed the audit reports about alleged misappropriation of accounts in the Information and Broadcasting and Religious Affairs ministries and the Statistics Division. The PTV managing director (MD) briefed the committee regarding the recoveries of the TV channel. He said that PTV had recovered Rs 1.11 billion out of the total Rs 1.36 billion. The PTV MD told the committee that the state-run corporation would recover the remaining amount soon.

The committee’s Chairman Zahid Hamid lauded the achievement of PTV and urged its MD to also recover the remaining amount. On the issue of conducting a nationwide census, the Statistics Division secretary briefed the committee that Rs 6 billion would be required for this purpose.
