NWFP FM channel to discourage militancy: Iftikhar

PESHAWAR: NWFP Minister for Information and Public Relations Mian Iftikhar Hussain here on Monday visited the computerisation project and the proposed site of FM Radio channel being established in the Directorate of Information and expressed satisfaction over the progress on both the projects.

Mian Iftikhar Hussain, while speaking on the occasion, said the need of provincial government-owned FM Radio was being felt for a long time and hoped the proposed radio channel would go a long way in discouraging militancy and violence in the society.

He said coverage range of the radio would be between 40 to 50 kilometre and it would benefit the illiterate people in rural areas who have no access to television and newspapers. The installation of machinery of FM Radio channel would be started this week while its test transmissions will be launched very soon. He was appreciative of Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti who approved the establishment of FM Radio channel to be run by the provincial government.
