No-trust motion against nazim passed

LARKANA, Aug 31: The Dokri Taluka Council at a special session held on Friday adopted a no-confidence motion against Taluka Nazim Shafqat Hussain Unnar.

Eleven members of the council voted for the resolution and two were absent from the session. First senior civil judge Waseem Ahmed Korejo conducted the process under tight security arrangements.

Ghulam Hussain Solangi of the Bagi Union Council had tabled the motion accusing the nazim of involving in corruption, taking unilateral decisions and ignoring members of the taluka council.

The taluka nazim did not attend the session to reply to the charges levelled against him, as required under the Sindh Local Government Ordinance, 2001. This was the fifth no-confidence motion against him as the previous attempts had failed.

It was learnt that Sindh Minister Altaf Hussain Unnar had first supported his nephew Shafqat Unnar for this seat, but then differences developed between them.

SALARIES WITHHELD: The district treasury office has withheld salaries of five newly-appointed employees of the department of archaeology posted at Moenjodaro.

Sources in the department said the southern wing of the department had appointed the employees in June. When their salary bills were submitted to the treasury office it raised some objections. The department had removed the objections but treasury officials were still reluctant to clear the salary bills for three months.
