No raid conducted: Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) spokesman

KARACHI- No raid was conducted at the offices of daily Dawn and it was only a routine inspection, a Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) spokesrtian.

The newly inducted personnel of the Army Air Defence in the KESC are conducting door to door inspection to cheek electricity load in order to maintain record, he added. The Army Air Defence personnel carry weapons during the survey, he said.

The Haroon House was also inspected as part of the same routine. The Dawn administration asked the army personnel to deposit their weapons at the reception, which is against the basic military rules, the spokesman said. The army team will conduct survey of all the areas and offices on I.I Chundigar Road, he added.

The KESC administration, in a press release, has clarified that the visit of the army monitoring team to the Pakistan Herald Publishers (Private) Limited (Dawn) was under a general policy of reviewing the power system of different industrial concerns, including the newspapers.

In the past, such inspections had also been conducted at the offices of dailies Jang and Nawa-e-Waqt. All newspapers reacted positively to the operation, the press release added.

The KESC spokesman while elaborating the routine inspection, which started on August 15, said the Army Air Defence teams were helping the KESC in conducting survey of electricity connections all over the city. There are no intentions to intimidate the press, he added.
