No increase in Internet tariff

ISLAMABAD- Keeping in view the growing need of Internet in the country, Pakistan Telecommunication Company has decided in principle not to increase the Digital Cross Connect (Internet) tariff for shared Internet Protocol (IP) bandwidth. Therefore, the bandwidth tariff will remain the same as applicable for other types of IP connectivity w.e.f. April 1, 2000, Akhtar Ahmed Bajwa, chairman of PTCL, disclosed this.

The Chairman said PTCL has taken the landmark decision in accordance with the policy of the government of Pakistan, Ministry of Science and Technology, in order to facilitate further penetration and prompt growth of Internet in the country. The step would also greatly benefit the Internet Service Providers (ISPs).

He added PTCL is committed to rapid promotion of Information Technology in the country.

Besides international bandwidth provision and improvement in the delivery mechanism, PTCL is also undertaking projects to enhance and modernise its domestic IT infrastructure namely 10 GB backbone network using its fibre optic rings, introduction of ADSL technology through private sector.
