No arrest in Bheel gang-rape case

NAWABSHAH: Police on Friday booked a landlord and two other people in the case of gang-rape of two women belonging to scheduled caste (Bheel) families.

The police claim to have conducted raids to arrest the accused. However, they have failed to make any arrest till Saturday evening.

The husband of one of the woman lodged an FIR with the Gupchhani police under section 376/2, 451/1 and 337 L-2 of the PPC against Shahnawaz Zardari, Nehar Zardari and an unidentified man.

The complainant alleged that the accused had criminally assaulted his wife and his brother’s wife on Thursday in Ghulam Nabi Zardari village.

The peasant women along with their families, originally belonging to Thar, had been brought to the village by landlord Shahnawaz Zardari to work on his agricultural land. After the incident, the peasant families have taken refuge in Khair Mohammad Brohi village with the help of a notable of Brohi tribe.

Meanwhile, the two women were taken to the People’s Medical College Hospital here for medical check-up.

Medico-Legal Officer Dr Gulnaz told Dawn that as both the women were already married, it was almost impossible for her to prove the allegation through their physical check-up.

She said that one of the women was five-month pregnant and had “visible marks” near her right eye and on the neck.

Dr Gulnaz said that internal and external swabs of the women and the clothes they were wearing on the day of the incident had been sent to Rohri laboratory for chemical examination.
