No additional holidays, says APNS

KARACHI, Sept 5: The All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) has warned the Akhbar Farosh Union (AFU) of Multan that it will devise a new paper distribution system in the region if the union insists on additional holidays for newspapers.

An APNS press release issued here said the AFU had nothing to do with newspaper holidays and it was the jurisdiction of the society to decide non-publication days for newspapers.

Rejecting a statement of the AFU regarding newspaper holidays, the APNS categorically stated that it would not accept any further increase in the number of newspaper holidays agreed by the APNS and the All Pakistan Akhbar Farosh Federation.

The press release said the APNS had abided by the agreement which called for six holidays and expected that the federation and its unions would also honour their commitment.

The APNS advised the Multan AFU to immediately withdraw its stance and said the society would be justified to implement a new distribution system in Multan or any other area after 30 days with participation of those Akhbar Farosh and news agents prepared to meet the readers’ demand for regular supply of newspapers.

It also said it would take all measures to ensure that readers received their newspapers without any hindrance on Dec 26.
