Nizami seeks role of media in holding fair, transparent polls

KARACHI: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Arif Nizami said that the government wanted to hold free, fair and transparent elections and the media would play central role in this regard. The federal minister was expressing these views while addressing a meeting of Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) in Karachi on Monday, says a press release.

He said that the media was playing an important role for the democracy in the country. He said that third phase had started in connection with the holding of elections, which was consisting upon electoral campaign and now the responsibility of media especially the electronic had enhanced. It was settled in the meeting that the issues of electronic media industry would be solved on priority basis.

A joint committee had been formed for resolving issues of code of conduct and industry. Secretary Information Agha Nadeem, Chairman Pemra Chaudhry Rasheed and on behalf of PBA Muhammad Aslam Qazi, Sultana Siddiqui, Shakeel Masood, Mir Ibrahim Rehman, Tahir A Khan, Arshad Zubairi, Dareed Qureshi, Bilal Lakhani, Gerjees Seeja and Muhammad Ali Butt were present in the meeting.
