Newspaper’s office ransacked

KARACHI- Armed men barged into bureau office of Sindhi (Daily Halchal) Civil Lines manhandled staff and resorted to ransacking the office on Monday.

Armed persons allegedly belonging to Asif Ali Zardari Release Committee forced their entry into the bureau office and threatened the staff members of dire consequences for publishing news against their party member Mobin Phulphotu. The miscreants manhandled and injured three journalists and fled.

Bureau Chief Masroor Lakho of (Halchal) lodged an First Information Report (FIR) against criminal group with Civil Lines Police Station in late night.

Governor Air Marshal (Retired) Azim Daudpota said the government believed in the freedom of press and it expected from every section of the society to observe the civilised values. He was expressing concern over the report of hooliganism at the bureau office. While condemning the incident, he issued directives that an enquiry into the matter and bring the responsible people to book.

The President Maqsood Yousufi and General Secretary Tariq Abul Hasan of the Karachi Union of Journalists also condemned the attack and threats to journalists. Viewing that political quarters were involved in the attack, the office-bearers said political activists should not to indulge in actions aimed at suppression of the press.
