Newsmen’s protest rally against police

KARACHI: Journalists took out a protest rally from Karachi Press Club to Governor’s House on Monday to condemn the harassment of journalists by police and an MPA belonging to the ruling party.

They allegedly chanted slogans against an MPA of Rahoki on whose ‘instance’, cases were allegedly registered against the local correspondents of two Sindhi dailies of Golarchi (Rahoki) district Badin.

Journalists Action Committee (JAC) had organised the rally which passed through the main road and culminated at Sindh Governor’s House where a memorandum was handed over to Rasheed Alam, Additional Secretary to Sindh Governor.

In Golarchi journalists of two Sindhi dailies were booked for their stories which were disliked by the area MPA who remained Excise and Taxation Minister in Liaquat Jatoi-led Sindh government.

They asked the Sindh Governor to withdraw all such cases against the journalists and order a thorough probe into such incidents.

They also demanded probe into attempt on Saeed Sarbazi’s life, a young journalist of Karachi.
