ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Nisar A Memon has said that the new prime minister will take oath between 12 and 15 March. Talking to a private TV channel on Friday, he said that the newly elected legislators would take oath on March 5, after the Election Commission (EC) of Pakistan issues the notification of successful candidates probably on March 1.

The independent candidates can join any party from March 2 to 9, and seats of minorities and women will be distributed after the affiliation of the independent members, he added. Memon said that elections for the posts of speaker and deputy speaker of the National Assembly would be held on March 6 or 7 through secret balloting.

New political developments were expected during the coming week that could affect the politics of the country, he added. He had said on Thursday that the caretaker government acted in impartiality during polls. The Pakistan People’s Party won the highest number of National Assembly seats in the February 18 elections, followed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and PML-Quaid.
