New Karachi town’s budget presented

KARACHI, July 06 2006: New Karachi Town announced Rs326.579 million budget for the fiscal 2006-07 on July 05. The budget documents show that the town’s anticipated income during fiscal year will be Rs327.457m as against its total expenditures of Rs326.579m, indicating a surplus of Rs0.878m. Unfolding details of the budget at a news conference, the town nazim said Rs136.105m had been allocated for undertaking uplift works whereas Rs190.474m have been earmarked for non-development works.

Giving a break-up of the development expenditures, he said Rs37.6m were earmarked for construction and repair of roads, streets and footpaths, followed by Rs18.05m for new parks and playgrounds; Rs13m for construction and repair of union councils’ streets; Rs10m for provision of street lights; Rs15m under the head of electricity charges; Rs1.50m for providing lights in parks; Rs6m for construction of an amusement park, a stadium and a swimming pool; Rs2.5m for raising town office’s second floor; Rs5.200m for repair of lines; Rs10m for purchasing diesel for sweeping department’s vehicles; Rs11.755m for purchasing vehicles and machines; Rs5m for citizens community board.
