New column for Hindu women in CNIC form

KARACHI: There is a new Regulation 14 inserted in the National Database & Registration Authority’s application for national identity card, Regulation 2002, on the directions of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

As per the notification, an applicant, who is a married Pakistani Hindu woman, needs only to provide an affidavit as proof of her marriage while applying for the first time for a computerised national identity card (CNIC) with her husband’s name on it.

Nadra previously continued this through a policy but on the instructions of the Chief Justice of Pakistan the policy has been incorporated in its Regulations, to ease processing CNICs for the Hindu community.

The statement issued by Nadra on Wednesday said that such an affidavit shall also be countersigned by the women’s husbands in acknowledgement of the contents of the affidavit. “No further proof of marriage shall be sought from such an applicant. The CNIC is a right of every Pakistani irrespective of caste, creed and religion,” it said.
