Nawaz lauds petition by journalists
LAHORE: PML-N President Nawaz Sharif said on Friday that the decision of the influential people to voluntarily present themselves for accountability was a commendable step that would strengthen democratic values and political traditions in the country.
Nawaz hailed the petition filed by two well-known journalists in the Supreme Court, seeking review of the financial matters of all influential journalists, as a praiseworthy step.
He said the trend of smearing impeccable characters was a matter of concern because besides giving a free hand to non-political elements it also eroded the trust and confidence of the common people. Nawaz regretted that contempt of court and violation of its decisions by the rulers had become a common practice.
