Nadra to start second phase of Watan Card distribution
Karachi: The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) is all set to start the second phase of distribution of Watan Cards after issuing over 1.6 million cards in the first phase, said Deputy Chairman Nadra Tariq Malik.
“The National Disaster Management Authority has estimated around 1.68 million families being affected by floods, and we have given Watan Cards to over 1.64 million families. It means we have done 99 per cent of our job. Now, after the successful completion of the first phase, we are hopeful that this achievement would pave the way for the successful completion of the second phase,” said Malik.
In the second phase, which is called Citizen’s Damage Compensation Programme (CDCP), one million flood-hit households will be provided with cash transfers.
“We are working with all the provincial governments to start the second phase as early as possible. Good news is that the World Bank has already approved $125 million for the second phase.”
According to him, Nadra distributed Rs30,350,275,877 to the flood-affected families across the country in the first phase. “Nadra has set a global example in helping people and giving them a mechanism for disbursement of cash assistance transparently.”
