NADRA denies illegal issuance of 500,000 CNICs to aliens

ISLAMABAD: NADRA has clarified that the statement of Senator Talha Mehmood about the authority issuing of Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) to 500,000 aliens had been misreported in a section of media on August 29. The authority said that it was the National Alien Registration Authority (NARA) not NADRA that has, under the law, a mandate to register the aliens present in Pakistan.

Moreover, NADRA said contrary to the media reports, no documentary evidence was presented in support of this blame on NADRA by the Senate Standing Committee on Interior Chairman Talha Mahmood during the committee meeting.

During his visit to NADRA Headquarters on Thursday, Senator Talha Mahmood showed his full confidence in NADRA and it’s transparent of process, according to the clarification issued by NADRA on Thursday. It reads further, “This kind of misreporting damages the reputation of the government’s organisation.”
