NA body to take up closure of TV channels
ISLAMBAD: A meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information has been convened on Tuesday (April 19) to discuss the issue of closure of two private TV channels of a large media group.
According to sources, the committee will meet under its chairperson Belum Hussnain. “The Pemra chairman has been summoned and directed to bring the relevant record pertaining to closure of the two channels,” the sources added.
The standing committee will also summon the management of the private TV channels after hearing the Pemra chairman. National Assembly Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi had referred the matter to the standing committee after the PML-N had voiced protest over the matter.
Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan and Information Secretary Taimoor Azmat have also been directed to attend the meeting.
