Mushroom growth of news agencies to be checked

KARACHI- A process will be developed with the cooperation of Federal Minister for Local Government and Labour for the implementation of the 7th Wage board Award. The government wishes to have the consent of the newspapers owners as well while implementing this Award. , This was stated by the Adviser to the Chief Executive on National Affairs and Information Javed Jabbar, at the oath taking ceremony of newly elected body of the APP Employees Union (Sindh) held at a local hotel.

He said that the government is trying to explain to the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNIS) that the implementation of any Wage Board for newspaper employees is a part of our law therefore it must be implemented. Javed Jabbar said that the Federal Minister for Local Government and Labour, Omer Asghar Khan, will convince the newspaper owners.

Javed Jabbar said that the government is seriously considering to establish a regulatory frame work, in consideration with the newspaper representatives, to control the mushroom growth of news agencies in Pakistan and once it is finalised it will be implemented.

The Minister said that mushroom growth of news agencies both in print and the electronic media, highlights the dilemma in this context in Pakistan. A regulatory framework will be established by the government to set up news agencies in the country.

Earlier, the newly elected President of the Union, Khusnood Sheikh and the Bureau Chief, Qadir Qureshi also spoke on the occasion.
