Mufti threatens journalists not to publish stories about him
PESHAWAR, March 17, 2006: Gagging freedom of expression, Mufti group in the troubled Bara, Khyber tribal agency, which has been a persistent cause of unrest and lawlessness in the area, has summoned two local newsmen today (Friday) to take surety from them that they will not publish any statement of their unlawful activities.
Two media men published what supporters of the Mufti did a day earlier.
They killed a man for his support to the archrival of the Mufti – Pir Saifur Rehman and burnt the house of another. They wanted to keep these developments secret, but when they saw the account of their activities in press, it infuriated them.
They not only threatened the journalists concerned, but also called them to pressurise them not to give any statement about his activities whether lawful or unlawful.
