Mubarak Gilani moves court
ISLAMABAD- Lawyers for Syed Mubarak Shah Gilani, one of the suspects in the kidnapping of US journalist Daniel Pearl, have filed a writ petition before the Lahore High Court (Rawalpindi Bench) for the recovery of Mr. Gilani from police custody.
The petition, which has made State and the Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Rawalpindi Cantt as respondents, has been filed by noted constitutional expert S M Zafar, on behalf of detainee’s son Syed Shafaat Gilani.
While, requesting the court to order the police to produce Mr. Gilani in the court, the petition also sought his immediate release on the plea that he had nothing to do with the kidnapping of the journalist.
The preliminary hearing in the writ petition is likely to be held by the court on Tuesday.
