Mohsin Ali passes away

KARACH- Veteran journalist Syed Mohsin Ali died a brief illness. He was 78. Mr Ali was a former editor and managing director of the now defunct Morning News. He leaves behind a son and a daughter.

His funeral prayers held at Gulzar-i-Habib mosque, opposite Frere police station, Clifton Road.. The Soyem held at the same mosque. He is buried at Defence graveyard

Syed Mohsin Ali, born in Calcutta on Aug 5, 1923, was a graduate of St Xavier’s College with a BA Hon in English. After obtaining a diploma in journalism, he joined the Star of India as a reporter and later the Morning News, Calcutta.

After partition he shifted with the Morning News to Dhaka as its editor and in 1953 he brought out its Karachi and Dhaka editions as its chief editor. In 1965 he was appointed as chief executive of the newspaper in 1971, he resigned both the posts. He travelled Europe, North America and Asia to represent Pakistan at several international seminars concerning the press.

The late Ali also taught journalism at the Karachi University during 1960 and 65. He was also a prominent broadcaster on current affairs and news analyst of television. He contributed articles on economics, strategic studies and political affairs to almost all national newspapers and magazines, including Dawn. He also represented different foreign newspapers and news agencies.
