‘Mir Jamilur Rehman’s words asset for Pakistan’

ISLAMABAD: The writings of Mir Jamilur Rehman are assets for Pakistan. His hand was on the pulse of the society. The renowned journalist had to face state vendetta. He was quite clear in his ideas and imagination. He has courage to expose the hypocrisy of the society and was lover of books.

These views were expressed by renowned politicians, intellectuals and social leaders during the launching ceremony of a book comprising Mir Jamilur Rehman’s selected columns here on Tuesday.

On this occasion former Law Minister SM Zafar said Mir Jamilur Rehman was his good friend. He said that in this book Mir Jamilur Rehman had written that Benazir Bhutto had ideas but not team and if she had seen present government she would have thought that this government neither had ideas nor team. He said that Mir Jamilur Rehman had criticised corruption in this book. He said that let me clear that NRO was a law, which had made the corruption respectable and due to this the Supreme Court was facing difficulties.

SM Zafar said that Mir Jamilur Rehman had discussed the method of issuing decree (Fatwa) in this book and wrote that from where did the system of issuing Fatwa come. He said that it was wrong to declare anyone infidel or liable to be murdered. Agah Nasir said that he had association with Mir Jamilur Rehman.

He said that late Jamilur Rehman was imprisoned by Ziaul Haq after being removed from his services. He said that Jamilur Rehman remained media advisor of Fauji Foundation. He loved books and he got pride of performance in 1999.

Renowned advocate Athar Minallah, in his address, said that Jamilur Rehman was a true Pakistani and his articles are the history of Pakistan. He said that Jamilur Rehman mentioned facts in his articles with honesty. Athar said that Jamilur Rehman had clear views and ideas about the nuclear capability of Pakistan.

Mushahid Hussain said that there were very rare personalities like Jamilur Rehman. He said that Jamilur Rehmand reflected the feelings of the masses in his articles.

While paying tribute to Mir Jamilur Rehman, his wife and social worker Yaqoot Jamilur Rehman said that she was a quite lucky person and was proud of being a wife of Mir Jamilur Rehman. She said that his memories are still with us. She said that he was hard worker, honest and a brave person. She said that his books are assets for Pakistan and we are getting great benefits from his books.

Former federal Minister Lt General (Retd) Abdul Majeed Malik, Saleem Saifullah, Ahmed Jogezai, Fashi Iqbal, Gauhar Ayub, Akram Zaki, Dr Jamal Nasir and several other political and social personalities spoke on the occasion.
