Minor girl set on fire over petty issue

By Abdul Aziz

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Two men, aged 25, 26, doused a five-year-old girl in kerosene oil and set her on fire after a verbal quarrel between women of theirs and the girl’s family over a petty issue involving children in Moro on Sunday.

The minor girl suffered severe burns before she could be saved.

Reports said that Abdul Rauf, 25, and Abdul Hakeem Korai, 26, caught Naeema, 5, outside her home and set her on fire after women of both the families fought with each other over a quarrel between their children. The girl shrieks brought out her neighbour who rushed to save her. But by then her body below neck down to legs had been burnt.

Naeema’s father Haji Habibullah Korai and her maternal uncle Ghulam Shabbir Korai took her to a private hospital wher she was under treatment.

Habibullah and Ghulam Shabbir told journalists that the dispute among women was not very serious but their rivals took it very seriously and burnt their girl.

They alleged that Moro police were supporting their rivals and were dragging their feet on lodging the FIR.

They said that they had submitted an application to the Justice of Peace and sessions judge of Naushahro Feroze against Moro police and appealed to higher authorities to take action against Moro police for not lodging their FIR.
