Islamabad: An eight-year-old girl was kidnapped, raped and killed near the shrine of Bari Imam in Nurpur Shahan on the outskirts of the capital late Thursday night, police sources said. Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Spokesman Dr. Waseem Khwaja, quoting the postmortem report, confirmed the rape of the minor girl before her killing.

Rizwan Abbasi, son of Ghulam Abbas (an electrician), a resident of Rawalpindi, lodged a complaint with the Secretariat Police Station. According to the complainant, he came to attend the Bari Imam’s ‘Urs’, along with his family, including his eight-year-old daughter Ghulam Zainab five days back. He said that he stayed in a camp for men, while his wife and daughter stayed in a camp for women and children. The complainant said that on Thursday night, his daughter came to him as usual and left for her camp after buying ice cream. He said that at about 6 am on Friday, his wife asked about Ghulam Zainab. He said he told his wife that he had sent Zainab to her.

According to the complainant, he immediately informed the police about the missing daughter. Police found the minor girl’s dead body lying in a ‘nullah’ near the shrine. The body was shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences for autopsy to ascertain the cause of her death.

A team of doctors conducted the postmortem of the victim. PIMS spokesman Dr Waseem Khwaja, when contacted by The News, confirmed that the girl was raped before being killed. Police have registered a case.
