Minister directs officials to block illegal SIMs
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Nisar Ali Khan Thursday directed all law enforcement agencies to block the use of illegal SIMs, including the international SIMs mainly issued from Afghanistan. Chairing a meeting to review law and order situation, the minister directed the security agencies to ensure effective border management systems to control the militancy in the country. The meeting was attended by DG Rangers, IG Frontier Corps, commandant Frontier Constabulary and all inspector generals of Police (IGP).
A senior official of Interior Ministry told Daily Times that the meeting discussed a report submitted to the ministry regarding involvement of militant groups in large-scale extortion activities not merely in KP but in other main cities of country as well. The meeting discussed options to engage diplomatic channels for action against the militant groups headquartered at the Pak-Afghan border. The meeting was told that some groups have established centres in areas adjacent to Pak-Afghan border and use untraceable international and local SIMs for making extortion calls.
