‘Men Yield! Women in Progress’!
RAWALPINDI – Second day of 10th Women’s Week continued with the vibrant spirit of the first day at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) here on Friday. The participants, audience and the organisers were all thrilled on the second day following a highly pleasurable and thriving first day.
The proceedings of the second day started with riveting bilingual contest. The theme of the bilingual declamation was ‘Journey of Women 1947-2007’, whereas the topics for the English declamation were; ‘From Suffering womanhood to Celebrating womanhood’ (serious) and ‘Men Yield! Women in Progress (humorous) while the serious and humorous topics for Urdu were; “Aurat Se Insaan Tak: Tashakhus Ka Safar” and “Anm Si Larki Hoon Aam si Khwahish Hai” respectively.
The chief guest on the occasion was Parveen Qadir Agha, while Prof. Dr Saeeda Asadullah Khan, Vice Chancellor of FJWU was the guest of honour. The judges for the English speeches were; Dr Hina Ashraf, Samina Termazi, and Dur-a-Shawar, whereas the judges for Urdu speeches were; Dr Qurratul Ain, Syeda Rizvi, and Dr Safia Ebad.
The participants exhibited their arguments with great enthusiasm and fervour. The atmosphere was charged with high spirits and excitement as the participants tried to win the audience with their forceful speeches.
The chief guest distributed the prizes to the winners and the judges. She encouraged the participants to carry forward the same enthusiasm, confidence and healthy competition in their professional lives.
The event ended with Anwar Masood’s poem ‘Aaj Kee Baqaei’, was recited by the students of FJWU. It was thoroughly enjoyed by the guests and audience.
The chief guest commended the performance of the participants, appreciated their efforts to reveal the problems of women, and valued their arguments in improving the situation of Pakistani women.
According to the decision of the judges, the winner of the trophy for bilingual declamation contest was University of Agriculture, Faisalabad.
The competitions of photography and painting also held on the second day. The participants of paintings presented picturesque paintings in the painting competition, which was held in the day.
The theme for this year’s competition was,” Looking at a Picture 1947-2007″. The relentless hard work put in by the participants was evident by the large variety of paintings on display. Aqueel Solangi and Nadia Rahat were appointed as the judges for the event.
Samia Javed of University of Gujrat got the first prize, while Saima Binish of NCA, Rawalpindi was second and Naveed Khan of Peshawar University got the third position.
The creative and artistic skills of the students were given an opportunity to flourish in the photography competition. The topic for black and white photography was “Women of Past” and the theme for coloured photography was “Women of Future”.
The judges for the event included; Sajid Munir, Javed Qazi and Rahat Yasmeen.
They appreciated the exemplary arts work of the students. In black & white category Usman Jamshed of Punjab University Lahore got the first prize followed by Waqar Durrani of Institute of Management Sciences, Peshawar and Mohsin Raza of Gomal University respectively.
A flower arrangement competition was also held as part of the Women’s Week.
Students from different universities exhibited their talent. The theme for the event was divided into two categories. For dry flower arrangement the theme was “Glorious Past” while ‘Subah-e-Nau’ was the theme for fresh flower arrangement.
The judges for the event were; Farzana Aziz and Asma Ansari, president of Floral Art Society. In the fresh flower arrangements, first position went to FJWU, Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences stood second, while Frontier Women University of Peshawar got the third position.
In the dry flower arrangements results Gomal University, DI Khan was declared as the winner of first position. University of Arid Agriculture won second position, whereas Frontier Women University of Peshawar got the third position.
The chief guest for the flower arrangement competition, painting and photography was; Sheikh Amin. He distributed the prizes and commended the efforts put in by all the participants.
