Memon condemns foreign media report about Musharraf’s exit

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Information Minister Nisar Memon has said Pervez Musharraf has been elected as president for five years and the foreign media report about his exit from power is condemnable.

He said this while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Pakistan Institute of Broadcasting and Information Technology in Ali Pur Farash and later talking to media men on Monday.

Responding to a question about the resignation of President Musharraf, he said the elements behind this conspiracy were working under a pre-conceived plan. “We strongly condemn it,” he added.

President Musharraf has been elected for five years and the statement splashed in the foreign media was condemnable, he held. President Musharraf relaunched the democratic process in the country after taking over his office, the local government elections were held, he took oath as a civilian president and ensured holding of the elections in a fair and transparent manner, Memon remarked.

The minister said President Musharraf took forceful steps to bring stability in the country besides providing protection to the common man. The armed forces, the judiciary and the president should not be involved in the politics and the people should respect these institutions, he added. The president is a symbol of the federation, therefore, his office should be given due regard for the sake of the supremacy of democracy, Memon said.
