Memon calls for security to TV channels, cable operators
KARACHI: Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon Tuesday taking notice of forced closure of some TV cable networks by miscreants asked the additional chief secretary home to take action against the culprits and provide security to TV channels and cable operators.
In a letter sent to Sindh additional chief secretary home, he said, “There are complaints of forced closure of TV channel from various parts of Karachi where the terrorists and political party’s workers threaten cable operators to switch off selected TV channels to achieve their nefarious designs and terrorise the media.”
He said the present democratic government firmly believes in the freedom of journalism. “We will not allow anyone to terrorise the media and forcibly stop the transmission of TV channels. These terrorist are challenging t he government’s writ and threatening the owners anchors, and other media personalities.”
He requested the additional home secretary to ensure safety and security of all TV channels and cable operators by providing help line number of Rangers, Police and all other law enforcing agencies to them so that they can in case of emergency they can call and seek assistance.
