Media’s role against terrorism lauded

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information, Culture and Transport, Mian Iftikhar Hussein has appreciated the role of media in war against terror, particularly in unveiling the real face of terrorists and isolating them in the society.

This he said while addressing the oath-taking ceremony of the newly-elected cabinet of Lakki Marwat Press Club in Peshawar.

Mian Iftikahr said that the media men rendered matchless sacrifices side by side Pakistan Army and other law enforcing agencies, politicians and general public in the war against terror. He added that due to the support of media on important national issues, government succeeded in getting provincial autonomy, additional funds in the NFC award, net hydel profit and identity for the province besides getting remarkable achievements in war against terror. He continued that successes of the government would have positive and everlasting effects on the socio-economic conditions of the province.

The Information Minister while announcing inclusion of the construction of building of the Press Club Lakki Marwat in the next ADP and rupees0.3 million grant, assured that other problems of the journalists community would also be solved on priority basis. Similarly, journalists of the Lakki Marwat would be given representation in inter-provincial tours of journalists in the future, he said. Regarding restoration of mobile phones service in the area, he assured that he would talk to the authorities concerned in this regard and the same problem would also be resolved at the earliest.

Earlier, members of Lakki Press Club apprised the minister in detail of the problems being faced by the local journalists’ community. Member of the Provincial Assembly, Yasmin Zia, Secretary Information, Azmat Hanif Orakzai, Director Information, Shuaibuddin and District President of ANP, Sadruddin were also present on this occasion.
