Mediamen file contempt plea against jail superintendent

KARACHI- Six news reporters filed an application before Anti-terrorism Court (ATC-III) Karachi, headed by Judge Arshad Noor Khan, praying to initiate proceedings of contempt of court order against Superintendent Central Prison Karachi and all others for not allowing them to attend inside the jail the proceedings of case (05/2002) against Ahmad Omar Sheikh and others. The reporters included Ali Hamza Khan of Daily Jang, Tahir Siddiqi of Daily Dawn, Ashfaq-ur-Rahman of APP, Salik Majeed of Daily Nawa-i-Waqt, Azam Zohrani of Daily Kawish and Aqil Rana of Daily Ummat. The Judge ATC-III had granted permission to six Pakistani reporters and two of BBC and CNN for coverage of trial in Daniel Pearl case, which was held inside Karachi prison today. Representing the applicants, Khwaja Naveed Ahmad advocate also prayed in the application to allow the reporters to cover the proceedings of the trial on April 12, 2002 and on future dates of hearing.
