Media voice of voiceless and helpless: Sharmila

KARACHI: Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister on Information Ms Sharmila Farooqui said Saturday that the government is committed to protecting media persons at all costs and ensuring media freedom for political, social and economic development in the country.

Media is the voice of voiceless and helpless people, so it should work hand in hand with the government and support its efforts for strengthening the federation, creating harmony among provinces, boosting democracy and ensuring durable peace in the country. President Asif Ali Zardari has given maximum freedom to media which was never witnessed in the past history of the country, she said in a statement.

Sharmila said that journalists are little soldiers that is why the PPP government under the dynamic leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari is providing conducive atmosphere and incentives to them at all levels. It is the need to hour that media should come forward with positive approach and highlight those issues which are in favor of the country and the nation, she said.

The advisor said that media plays vital role in socio-economic development because it raises issues and helps government in resolving lingering issues in a better way. This is media and democracy era and booth needs to be strengthened in positive manner and that is why are striving to bolster both of them on priority basis.

The advisor said the media faced a lot of troubles during previous dictatorial governments but we are making hectic efforts to ensure complete freedom to it. The government will do its best to mitigate the sufferings of media persons at all costs, she added.
