Media should promote interfaith harmony: Bhatti
ISLAMABAD: Media is a weapon of peace for minorities and should play effective role for the promotion of interfaith harmony and relationship to reduce intolerance in the society and building the soft image of the country at international level.
Minister In-charge for National Harmony Dr Paul Bhatti stated this while addressing a seminar on ‘Minorities issues’ he himself had arranged. He said that minorities had no complaints with the media as it always stood by them in the need of hour and raised their issues and problems objectively.
He said that an international conference on interfaith harmony with religious leaders of different faiths from all over the world including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran, Egypt, Indonesia, UK, USA and Canada would be held here very soon. He asked the minority parliamentarians to jointly work for the protection of the rights of the minorities aimed at uplifting their social and economic status in the society.
He said the government had empowered the minorities by giving them representation in the Senate as well following the efforts of ex-federal minister for minorities late Shahbaz Bhatti. It is the time we should play role on our part to work hard to bring the minorities in the mainstream of the society, he added.
