Media campaign for illegal arms
KARACHI- The strategy for media campaign against illegal arms came under discussion at a meeting held under the chairmanship of the Sindh Home Secretary, Brig (Retd) Mukhtar Ahmed.
It was decided that the campaign, which starts from May 15, would be directed towards encouraging the people to provide information about illegal weapons and their owners. Citizens having illegal/illicit weapons will be persuaded through electronic and print media to hand over the same voluntarily. Those possessing illegal arms would be apprised of the consequences, if they fail to respond by June 7.
The home secretary has sought cooperation of the citizens for the success of the campaign to make society arms free. Besides the media, cooperation of the Non Governmental Organization (NGOs), Ulema and political leaders will also be sought.
The meeting was attended by the commissioner, Karachi; general manager, Pakistan Television Karachi; director, information and representatives of Radio Pakistan.
