Media asked to refrain from carrying ‘provocative’ news

Karachi: Sindh information secretary Dr Zulfiqar Ali Shalwani on Thursday urged the print and electronic media to refrain from printing, publishing or broadcasting items which could provoke hatred or cause conflicts.

Presiding over a meeting of the media sub-committee of the Provincial Action Plan, the secretary said it was the responsibility of all print and electronic media to support the measures taken by the government to curb terrorism in the country. Participants of the meeting suggested creating awareness in the masses with the help of SMS and cable network, and also via write ups in newspaper columns.

Participants of the meeting included press and information department’s director-general Ashiq Hussain Sheikh, Sayed Sikandar Ali of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority , Major Waheed Bukhari from Inter-Services Public Relations, Ayaz Alam from the home department, Major Sibtain from Sindh Rangers, director press information Mohammad Yousuf Kabooro, director electronic media Pervez Hasnain and Sindh Police’s media director Moiz Peerzada.
