MCP condemns killing of another journalist

LAHORE: The Media Commission Pakistan (MCP) expressed shock at the killing of web editor of Internet publication The London Post, Faisal Qureshi. He was found dead at his family house with a slit throat and wounds on his body. His brother said, “Qureshi had received threats in the past for the stories he wrote for his paper.”

“It is a target killing and the fact that his laptop and mobile phone are missing gives weight to this suspicion that his killing is directly linked to his work,” said MCP President IA Rehman,.

“Pakistan has been at the top in the index of press freedom violations and killings of journalists and even this year Faisal will be 11th journalist killed in the line of duty. No culprit has ever been arrested and the reports of inquiries are never made public in any killing, which is disappointing,” Rehman said.

The MCP demanded a transparent inquiry into the killing of Qureshi to determine the motive behind his killing. It called upon the authorities to investigate this matter on a priority basis and arrest the culprits.
