Massive rigging in Thar alleged

HYDERABAD, Feb 25: Members of Tharparkar PPP, Thar Ittehad, Marooara Welfare Association and Thar Bachayo Action Committee staged a demonstration outside the press club here on Monday to protest against massive rigging in the general elections in Tharparkar district.

Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan People’s Party leader Comrade Jam Saqi, Sikiladho Rahimoon, Mumtaz Ali Rahimoon and others said that armed people had taken over control of various polling stations in the district on the eve of the elections and stamped ballot papers.

They accused the Arbab group of terrorizing PPP voters in Tharparkar district.

Rejecting the results of Tharpakar district, they called on the Election Commission to conduct re-election in Tharparkar district under the supervision of the army to enable the people to exercise their right of franchise without any fear.

Our Nawabshah correspondent adds: Celebrations over the election victory of the Pakistan People’s Party continued here on Sunday when its activists took out a rally.

The rally emerged from the union council-2 area and culminated at the local press club. The activists also took out a funeral of cycle, election symbol of the Pakistan Muslim League, and burnt an effigy of former Sindh chief minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim.

Speaking on the occasion, Inayat Jamali and other PPP leaders said that some leaders of the Sindh chapter of the PML wanted to escape after their historic defeat but they would not be allowed to escape and would be made accountable before public.
