Marri highlights role of media
KARACHI: Provincial Minister for Information Shazia Marri has said that it is the responsibility of society to provide equal opportunities of progress to women because they have a lot of potential and their working should be appreciated.
She said this while speaking as chief guest at the opening ceremony of Tipping Point 2009 at a hotel here on Saturday. Marri stated that the media has an important role in society and she asked if we were ready for social media techniques to be used to achieve our goals. “These goals are not just limited to business but include those that we set for ourselves collectively as a nation,” she said.
She said that social media techniques are becoming increasingly popular across the world and all members of the community should work towards these and it should be the prime duty of the media to engage people in a community.
“Media should lead the masses in a positive direction and we should work collectively for the betterment of the society, without crossing the limits sets by religion and culture,” Marri added. Tracy Brown, Dr Mirza Abrar Baig, Masood Hashmi and Ata Shabbir also spoke on the occasion.
