Man kills wife, four children for ‘love’

GUJRANWALA: Police arrested a man on Monday who after killing his wife and four children for creating hurdles in his second marriage tried to portray the incident as an outcome of a botched-up robbery at Bhoma Bath village, Alipur Chattha. Reports reaching here said the accused, Zulfikar Ahmed, a father of four – three sons and a daughter — had an affair with a teenaged girl, ‘N’, of the same village, and wanted to marry her.
When he told his wife Shahida Bibi about his intentions, she and his children — Sufian (14), Hamza (11), Usman (7), and daughter Aden (5) — strongly opposed him.
However, Zulfikar was adamant and started remaining away from his family for days.
On late Sunday night, he sneaked into his house and shot his wife and children dead and went away.
After returning home on Monday morning, the accused raised hue and cry, claiming robbers committed the murders in a failed bid.
Police, after quizzing Zulfikar’s neighbours and some acquaintances smelled rat and took the accused in custody for interrogation.
Police said the accused during preliminary investigation confessed to his crime.
Police also arrested his father Mohammad Boota and two brothers Iftikhar Ahmed and Qamar for assisting the accused.
A case has also been registered against ‘N’ and her father on charge of instigating the accused.
The bodies have been shifted to Wazirabad tehsil headquarters hospital for autopsy.
